Job Title: Public Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist The UFSWQD seeks a collaborative communicator and project manager to join our multi-faceted Public Affairs Department. The Public Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist will work closely with the Senior Public Affairs and Community Engagement Specialist to support community relations, government relations, and stakeholder engagement. The position reports to the Director of Planning and Public Affairs. Are you organized, proactive, flexible in communication, and a strong project manager with a passion for public service? This role supports the district’s communication, education, outreach, and engagement strategies by coordinating community and government relations efforts. Responsibilities include managing projects—establishing timelines, budgets, and relationships—and developing educational and outreach plans to communicate district initiatives to the public, media, board members, and employees. Key Responsibilities: Communications Support strategic communication initiatives and manage the district’s digital presence, including website, social media, email communications, and content development. Handle media inquiries, craft press releases, and serve as a Public Information Officer during emergencies. Community Relations Address inquiries, organize community engagement activities, and develop flood awareness programs. Coordinate outreach related to district maintenance activities and support community events and presentations. Government Relations Assist in advocacy efforts, including drafting letters, scheduling meetings, and supporting board communications. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, support emergency response, and promote safety, inclusion, and respect in the workplace. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with 2-5 years of relevant experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and digital communication tools. Work Environment & Travel: This role involves a hybrid work schedule with some fieldwork, occasional evening or weekend shifts, and possible travel using personal or district vehicles.
