Job Description

Under the direction of the Education Administrator I of the Focused Monitoring and Technical Assistance III (FMTA III) Unit, the Education Programs Consultant works independently providing technical assistance and monitoring special education compliance in assigned areas as required and consistent with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The FMTA III Unit is responsible for completing local educational agency (LEA) monitoring reviews of both compliance and performance indicators. Travel may be required

  • Review and monitor local educational agency (LEA) Compliance and Improvement Monitoring (CIM) process who are in Targeted Monitoring Review status
  • Participate in monitoring review activities including but not limited to: student file reviews and corrective action follow-up to ensure LEA compliance with state and federal special education laws and regulations.
  • Review, analyze, and aggregate district and student data; proficient in Microsoft Software Programs, specifically Excel and Outlook
  • Maintain open communication with Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) directors, special education directors, and superintendents; work with districts to obtain access to district files and student records
  • Review and analyze student individualized education plans (IEPs), LEA policies, procedures,and practices to ensure Special Education Laws are enforced
  • Attend monitoring plan meetings and post review meetings
  • Provide technical assistance to assigned counties and/or LEAs, including, but not limited to: State Performance Plan Indicators and Targeted Monitoring Status
  • Facilitate trainings to LEAs and SELPAs
  • Conduct research, analysis, and preparation of report materials to Department administration, state legislature, federal government, and other agencies as required
