Job Description

Telecommunication Technician

Position Summary: As the Telecommunication Technician, the role analyzes complex local and wide area network systems, including planning, designing, evaluating, and configuring operating systems and protocol suites for virtualized and containerized systems. Resolve difficult interoperability problems to obtain operation across host, hypervisor, and guest nodes.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • The Telecommunication Technician role will load and configure cloud servers and vendor (e.g., Cisco, Juniper) or white box routers and switches.
  • The role will also support the acquisition of hardware and software and subcontractor services.
  • Acting as a technical project leader or providing work leadership to junior employees, as needed, is also required.

Skills and Experience:

  • 8 years of experience with providing technical support for the engineering and testing of complex software and hardware systems in the communication field.
  • Experience with network planning for telecommunications switches.
  • Experience with conducting integration and system level testing of telecommunications systems or platforms.
  • Experience with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper or equivalent networking equipment.
  • Experience with VMWare, QEMU, KVM, or Docker.
  • Experience with Linux or OpenStack.
  • Knowledge of telephony and telecommunication.
  • Knowledge of networking services.
  • Knowledge of software defined networking.
  • Hands-on work experience with the installation, provisioning, maintenance, operation, and testing of 5 or more of the following equipment types: PBX, landline, GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE softswitch, SDH, ATM, routers, switches, and Network Management Systems.
  • Working knowledge of signaling protocols such as SS7, CCITT #5, and R2.
  • Experience with telecommunications and network analysis, performance, and communications tools (for example: HP, W&G, Tekelec, Firebird, Nethawk).
  • Experience with conducting integration and system level testing of telecommunications systems or platforms.
  • Cisco CCNA or equivalent required.
  • RHCSA preferred.
  • Education: HS diploma or GED.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
