Summary

This position is responsible for supporting Engineering Management, Lead Engineers and/or senior level and junior level Engineers by providing guidance and expertise in planning, research, design, prototyping, and documentation activities associated with aircraft interior product development and modification programs. This role supports design and development of work scope deliverables to support customer and OEM requirements as well as development and improvement of engineering processes and best practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties as assigned:

  • Provide technical leadership throughout the product lifecycle, from concept through certification and production.
  • Perform design assignments independently with established design standards independently.
    • Assigned design tasks include but are not limited to commercial aircraft interiors components and products such as premium class seating, product installation, and detailed electrical systems and assemblies.
  • Participates in teams or leads a team to support the development of designs. Reviews and approves the documentation of design implementation.
  • Leads or participates in Design Validation Reviews (DVR)
  • Obtain, interpret, and analyze OEM airplane product installation or layout drawings using approved processes and tools.
  • Provide technical leadership for electrical engineering.
  • Mentor other experienced engineers including development of Lead Engineering skills.
  • Actively support engineering department goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with other departments, as necessary.
  • Utilize internal drawing/document standards per customer or regulatory agency requirements.
  • Perform engineering design and document checks and validations.
  • Perform engineering design approvals (design/approval authority) and task scheduling (such as detailed schedule of a given task per program requirements).
  • Perform engineering workscope reviews. Assist in engineering task scheduling and performance tracking.
  • Identify Technical Risks and Program Risks
  • Provide technical input for solutions to engineering issues for all programs as needed.
  • Act as design authority for design tasks.
  • Define engineering tasks for PE/Functional Manager.
  • Leads the overall effort to effectively troubleshoot and solve extremely difficult multi-system problems. Applies extensive knowledge and experience to quickly identify root causes and resolve key issues.
  • Develop strategies for shaping future customers and industry requirements. Defines risk mitigation strategies. Acts as a senior consultant to lead independent assessments. Defines concepts and curricula for instruction of other engineers. Serves as a company-wide subject matter expert to lead the prevention and resolution of problems.
  • Provide mentoring and performance management input to functional Manager.
  • Some domestic or international travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job may have some supervisory responsibilities as delegated by the Functional Manager.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Drafting and modeling skills in CATIA V5 and/or SolidWorks preferred.
  • Must be able to provide complicated lay-outs and program design studies.
  • Must be able to interact successfully with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing departments.
  • Must be able to function as part of a design team.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of Boeing/Aircraft/SAE Design Standards/Requirements.

Education and/or Experience

BS degree Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related Engineering field (12 years or more of experience) or equivalent working experience (18 years minimum in an aerospace related field).

Language Skill

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Federal Aviation Requirements; Airframe OEM and industry requirements regarding Product Design and Installation; operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers of employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
