Mission:

Step Up Louisiana, along with our sister organization Step Up for Action, is a community based organization committed to building power to win education and economic justice for all. We work with multiracial and intergenerational Louisianans to Step Up by campaigning, organizing from a racial justice perspective, and holding public officials accountable. We organize with parents, workers, students, and community members to disrupt systemic oppression in our schools and workplaces through voter education, advocacy, and action.

About the Organizer in Training Program:

The Organizing In Training program is designed to recruit and train Louisianans who are committed to challenging inequality, organizing from a racial justice perspective, and building base and power for the long term. By equipping participants with essential organizing skills and political education, we will empower them to lead direct action, voter mobilization, and cultural organizing projects in their communities. By creating a virtuous cycle between base building and electoral/civic engagement work, we aim to empower our participants through voting and fostering an understanding of our collective power as organizers. This will foster lasting change for climate, education, and economic justice by building the long-term membership of Step Up Louisiana.

OITs will receive training, education, coaching, and mentoring. They will spend their days in the community talking with residents, formerly incarcerated people, parents, low-wage workers, neighbors, and Step Up members bringing them together to take action. By the end of the program, OITs will support Step Up's campaigns, meetings, demonstrations, and other activities.
