POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mental Health Educator plays a critical role in promoting emotional wellbeing, positive behavioral development, and social-emotional learning (SEL) across youth programs. This position bridges direct program support, staff training, family engagement, and internal strategy, ensuring holistic behavioral health practices are integrated into daily operations. With a focus on school-age and camp-based services, this role supports behavior tracking, interventions, staff coaching, and mental health literacy initiatives, while actively contributing to cross-agency coalitions and community outreach efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Monitor and respond to professional communications, emails, and program queries.

2. Communicate and collaborate with YMCA program staff teams, external agency staff, and members of the community.

3. Provide direct support through school-age program shifts.

4. Conduct ongoing behavioral research and contribute to general mental health initiatives.

5. Develop individualized Behavior Support Plans and monitor implementation.

6. Review behavior reports and update digital tracking systems.

7. Facilitate parent meetings, dismissal meetings, conduct behavioral observations, and staff coaching during school age and day camp.

8. Create program materials including behavior trackers, visuals, and SEL tools.

9. Occasionally design and lead trainings on mental health, behavior management, and SEL for staff and extended community.

10. Provide individual support related to mental health and wellness.

11. Interpret and update social-emotional assessment data.

12. Participate in professional development through webinars and continuing education.

13. Assist in grant writing and applications for mental health related programming

14. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Community Health Education, Psychology, Social Work or other health related field required.

2. Travel required from branches to various sites throughout Washington and Ozaukee counties.

3. Experience with program planning, implementation, and evaluation

4. Knowledge of community mental health resources.

5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Teams.

6. Experience in working closely with volunteers and staff.

7. Excellent writing, organizational, presentation and communication skills.

8. Strong project management and problem-solving skills.

9. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, volunteers, members, senior leaders, and the public.

10. Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the YMCA. Motivated while working in a fast-paced environment.

11. Valid Driver’s license required.

12. Ability to work with integrity, discretion, and a professional approach.
