Job Description

Job Summary:

The position is responsible for managing all EH&S related functions within the facility and will be responsible for providing environmental and safety reporting, maintenance, and analysis to ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, etc.). The Environmental, Health and Safety Coordinator represents the company and acts as liaison with governmental agencies and representatives as well as tracks, approves and audits programs for the disposal of hazardous materials and chemicals.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Investigate all accidents to determine root causes and work with management to implement corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Maintain site Environmental, Health & Safety programs.
  • Conduct periodic and scheduled EH&S audits/inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Manage hazardous waste storage and disposal in accordance with Federal/State and Local regulations.
  • Serve as chairperson for the site safety committee and emergency response team.
  • Procure and distribute EH&S related topics for company wide distribution.
  • Maintain company MSDS file for all on site chemicals.
  • Responsible for maintaining all OSHA & EPA required logs, reports and documentation.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the EH&S training programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Obtain required EPA permits and maintain all files and associated reports as required.
  • Support the Restricted Duty Program and all Workers Comp issues that arise.
  • Act as the initial point of contact with federal, state and local authorities concerning safety and environmental issues.
  • Act as the facility Emergency Coordinator and maintain applicable BCP and other emergency procedures.
  • Complete job hazard analyses and industrial hygiene assessments.
  • Respond to emergencies both during and off normal working hours

Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Requires a High School education or equivalent
  • Preferred 4-year degree in related major or 2 years’ experience within EHS related functions.
  • Must have computer skills for use with typical business software and equipment.
  • Knowledge of workman’s compensation, OSHA and EPA requirements is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed.
  • Requires dealing with people at all levels within the company and outside the company on matters requiring explanation, discussion and obtaining approvals.
  • Must be able to plan your own work and to use professional knowledge to evaluate and interpret job requirements, guided by standard or accepted practice.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Preferred:

  • Prior DOT Hazardous Waste Training

Physical Requirements:

  • Normal office environment where approximately 70% of work is performed in a sitting position with the remaining time walking and moving around the office, stores, and manufacturing areas
  • Must be able to work effectively at video display terminals for extended periods of time.
  • Normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination for keyboard operations is necessary approximately 70% of the time.
  • Normal or corrected hearing and vision are required.
  • Duties require typical bending, stooping, reaching, stretching, etc. with lifting typically limited to 10-20 lbs. maximum.
