Summary:
This position is a 9-month, faculty position in the Music Program in the Visual, Performing and Communication Arts Department in the College of Education, Humanities, and Behavioral Sciences. This position is expected to continue and expand the Music Industry Concentration with courses, performances, and update software and equipment as needed; enrich the curriculum in significant ways through expertise in their field, recruitment of new students, and integrating research into a curriculum. In addition, the successful candidate, will be expected to work at the undergraduate and graduate level and be able to work closely with other programs within the department and college. This role will contribute to the development of the music program through innovative teaching, research, performance, and the acquiring of NASAM accreditation. The rank and tenure-status of position is negotiable based on qualifications.

Examples of Duties


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in music industry topics such as recording technology, music business, production, and audio engineering, and as needed music appreciation or applied lessons.
  • Responsible for student advising, recruiting and participation in program building, and committee work.
  • Work closely with students on practical industry-related projects, including recording, production, and business aspects of the music industry.
  • Be actively involved in scholarly activity/creative works.
  • Be able to seek funding or resources for the updating of equipment and software
  • Potential other duties in applied saxophone and/or clarinet.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications


Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):

  • Terminal degree (e.g., DMA, PhD) in Music or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must hold Avid Instructor Certification.
  • Must have a demonstrable commitment to public engagement and performance record.
  • A record of successful teaching/commitment to teaching excellence, and professional experience and research in the music industry
  • Professional and/or Creative works supported by a professional and/or creative portfolio

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in music industry concepts including music production, recording technology, music business, and audio engineering.
  • Proficiency with Avid products (e.g., Pro Tools) and other music industry software and hardware.
  • Strong commitment to innovative teaching, research, and public engagement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students across the department and university.
