Job Description

An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide expert communication support to a 1st grade student in an elementary school setting. This full-time, contract position offers 6-7 hours of service per day, Monday through Friday, during the normal school year.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating effective communication between the student and classroom teachers, peers, and staff using American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Interpreting classroom instruction, discussions, and activities accurately and efficiently to ensure the students full participation.
  • Collaborating with educators and support staff to foster an inclusive learning environment tailored to the student's needs.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and upholding professional standards at all times.
  • Assisting with any individual or small group activities as needed throughout the school day.

Qualifications and experience desired:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated interpretation skills, preferably in educational settings.
  • Previous experience working with young children, particularly in elementary school environments.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain focus and adaptability in a dynamic classroom atmosphere.
  • Commitment to supporting the inclusion and academic growth of students with hearing impairments.
