Job Description

An opportunity is available for an Educational Interpreter specializing in American Sign Language to support a kindergarten student in a 1:1 setting within an elementary school environment. The student is fully deaf and uses cochlear implants, having prior experience with sign language during preschool early intervention. This role is essential to facilitate effective communication and learning as the student transitions into elementary school.

Responsibilities include providing full-time onsite interpretation services tailored to the student's individual needs. Collaboration with another onsite interpreter supporting a 2nd grade student will offer opportunities for teamwork, support, and shared resources. The position requires consistent presence and engagement within the school setting, located approximately 20 minutes from a major university and about an hour from the state capital.

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience in educational interpreting
• Previous experience working with elementary-aged students (Grades K-5), ideally in a 1:1 setting
• Understanding of deaf education and experience supporting students with cochlear implants
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with school staff and other interpreters

Location: State College, Pennsylvania

This is a contract position for the academic school year, offering a competitive pay range of $35-$45 per hour. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and weekly pay.
